What is a diagonal beam?

A diagonal beam provides a transition between two modular plastic chain conveyors, allowing product to shift seamlessly while the chains are running parallel to each other. Guides ensure the product keeps moving in the proper direction.

The diagonal beam itself actually becomes part of both conveyors. The drive unit of the incoming conveyor is connected on one side, while the idler unit of the outgoing conveyor is connected to the other. The beam creates a 15° angle in both conveyors, at which point the chains are running parallel and product can shift smoothly from one to the next.

In many cases it's necessary to use more than one plastic chain conveyor in an application, whether it's due to length, the number of angles, or the torque required. Diagonal beams are typically used when the product might be too unstable to transfer using a free-rolling or driven transfer when conveyors are placed end to end. They're also commonly used to join conveyors in alpine units.

A wrap beam is closely related, offering the same functionality for units with top-running chain.
